Using inputlookup on a CSV file in searches, why do results only get displayed in the Statistics and Visualization tabs, not the Events tab?

I have an excel file (CSV), which I add as a lookup and do searches using inputlookup. The search results only gets displayed in the Statistics and Visualization Tab while nothing gets displayed in Events tab. Any specific reason? I am newbie in Splunk. Is there any other way to load data apart from using lookups?
