Maximum length of an Index name

We are planning on some long and detailed index names. I'd like to know if there is a maximum length an Index name can be?

Hi danbrook,
indexes are folders on operative system, so you have only to respect the limits of your operative system and eventually limits of your backup system.
Every way, very long names aren't so usable in Splunk searches! but you could pass this problem using tags and eventtypes.

Bye.
