Is there a query I can use to get the amount of bandwidth used by my forwarders?

The indexing metrics per host should come pretty close, they're built into the Splunk on Splunk app (pre-6.2) or the Distributed Management Console (6.2). They're both looking into index=_internal source="*metrics.log" sourcetype=splunkd, anything more specific than the prebuilt searches can be found in there.
