How do I get characters ä ü ö in a CSV lookup table to appear correctly in the field name?

I have a CSV file with a lookup table for some Windows event codes.
The description is in German and there are some ä, ö, ü characters in there.
The file uploads fine. Sadly, the characters ä ö ü are displayed incorrectly as a square in the fieldname.
I already tried ä and so on in the CSV, but this doesn't work. How can I fix this problem and make ä ö ü appear in the fieldname?

Make sure your CSV file is UTF-8 encoded.
