Hello,
I'm running the Splunk Lite 6.3.3 Free version (<500MB daily). When I look at the licensing of it, is says that my license is perpetual and the expiration date is out in 2038.
I've run some test upgrades to 6.4.2 and it all runs clean. However, when I look at the licensing it has the trial license and the lite free license in the /etc/licensing folder. If I stop the splunkd server and remove the trial license and restart I am back using the free mode license. However, the license expiration date is now 1 year from today. Will this license expire in one year? If so, how to I renew it on the free version? Or does the license expiration always show 1 year from the current date?
I'd like to keep my systems up to date and see where things go with the indexing of my data. I'm just concerned that the licensing model may be changing as I upgrade to newer version.
Thanks.
Chuck.
Apparently, the is a catch here -

The following documentation explains - About Splunk Light licensing
It says -
-- Your Splunk Light Free license has a one-year term. When it expires you can either purchase and install a new Splunk Light license, or purchase and install a Splunk Enterprise license to upgrade to Splunk Enterprise. You also have the option of renewing your Splunk Light Free license by contacting Splunk.
