Website SSL monitor

Trying to get the SSL monitoring Extension working and I am seeing this error:

unable to load certificate
140343873517384:error:0906D06C:PEM routines:PEM_read_bio:no start line:pem_lib.c:703:Expecting: TRUSTED CERTIFICATE

I am installing on Linux

Playing around with it I have found that we have to use a proxy to connect externally.  I am not sure if this monitor works with a proxy?
