Is Splunk looking to get an official port declared by the IETF? Inquiring students want to know.

Splunk does not require a specific port, rather it is leveraging existing protocols and their designations. This will be dependent upon many factors specific to each individual implementation. Below are a few examples:

  • HTTP
  • HTTPS:
  • Syslog
  • SNMP
  • WMI
  • .....
