Does Splunk need Internet Access to work?

We have a licensed Splunk 5.0 installation that will not be allowed to access the internet.

The splunkd.log shows two error entries that repeatedly occur (every day):
ERROR HTTPClient - Cannot find host "splunkbase.splunk.com": No such host is known.
ERROR ApplicationUpdater - Error checking for update via https://splunkbase.splunk.com/api/apps:resolve/checkforupgrade: Invalid URI

Q1: Is there a way to configure Splunk to never try to connect to "splunkbase"?

Q2: Would Splunk "someday" stop working if never able to connect out via the Internet?

We want to minimise splunkd.log ERROR message volumes that must be ignored by Operations ...

Thanks

John

Splunk does not require internet to work, many customers run it in isolated environments.

The only consequence will be this ApplicationUpdater message, see other answer for the method to disable the check.

You can configure it not to check for updates and other internet resources. See "Configure No Internet" on the community Wiki.
