What’s New in Splunk Observability Cloud – June 2025 

We are excited to announce the latest enhancements to Splunk Observability Cloud as well as what is currently in preview for the Splunk Observability portfolio.  These new innovations to Splunk Observability Cloud are designed to help ITOps and engineering teams better standardize observability practices across teams, improve end-user experiences, optimize cloud monitoring and debug problems faster in microservice-based applications. The below features are now generally available to customers as of June 24, 2025. 

Featured Highlights 

RUM: Custom Tags for MMS: Previous to this month’s release, Splunk RUM already supported custom tags in the Troubleshooting MetricSets (TMS) and provided users the ability to add tags to theMonitoring MetricSets (MMS). With this latest release, Splunk RUM users can now create additional custom tags in MMS to filter and aggregate default metrics by a specific indexed span tag or process such as Branch or UserID.  This data can easily be exported to Splunk Cloud Platform’s dashboards and alerts.  MMS also provides a higher data retention period of 13 months compared to TMS’s 8-day data retention period.  This ultimately provides teams with better visibility into user journeys to help improve end-user experiences in critical applications. Kubernetes (K8s) Proactive Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot your Kubernetes (K8s) nodes and pods in Observability Cloud with new in-context K8s events within the Kubernetes Navigator, a new overview tab with improved chart drill downs, new control plane dashboards, and enhanced faceted filtering to help identify common K8s problems and expedite awareness of the most pressing issues.  Learn more at the links below:

RUM: Histogram Visualizations & Link to Sessions in TMS:
We have added the ability for Splunk RUM users to visualize histograms for certain key RUM metrics (page load duration, core web vitals such as LCP, CLS & INP) in Tag Spotlight, so you can troubleshoot specific users' sessions faster and improve end-user experiences. Learn more at the links below:

Optimized Default Index Selection & UI Experience for Log Observer: This enhancement introduces Default Index Selection and Filter Button Adjustment in the Log Observer (LO) UI.  The default auto-selection of all indexes on the Log Observer Connect homepage will be changed and limited to only one index.  This ensures a streamlined, intuitive experience for users accessing logs via Unified Identity and Log Observer Connect without unnecessary resource consumption. What’s in Preview Now?  

Splunk Database Monitoring:  Get deep visibility into query performance and execution plans—correlated with app performance via Splunk APM—all in one tool for faster, smarter troubleshooting.  We’re seeking existing Splunk Observability Cloud customers who are using Microsoft SQL Server databases looking to empower application teams to troubleshoot and resolve database and query performance issues; minimizing the extensive back-and-forth between application and database administrators. Entity-level Adaptive Thresholding in Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI): We are introducing the ability for you to dynamically threshold individual entities without the need for manual configuration in Splunk ITSI.   With ML assistance, each entity time series will be individually analyzed and baselined. This preview is best for existing Splunk ITSI customers on ITSI v4.19.  The previewing users will need Administrator level access with permissions to updated KPI thresholds.
