October 2022 Highlights
Splunk Observability Cloud
New Data Management Center for Splunk Observability Cloud
The new Data Management page provides more visibility into what integrations have already been set up to your account and advanced data configuration tools that can help you optimize the data coming into Observability. The new UI should provide faster access management and maintenance of your account.
Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring
Changes to Dimension Values for AWS CWAgent Namespace
Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring collects telemetry from AWS CloudWatch to inform users regarding the status of their cloud services and alert customers in the case of failures or degradation of service. Customers can use the Amazon CloudWatch Agent to provide detailed performance data on EC2 compute instances.
Splunk is changing the format of the AWSUniqueId dimension on resources in the CWAgent namespace to ensure that value is aligned to the AWSUniqueID for the EC2 namespace. Aligning the AWSUniqueId values simplifies merging metrics from the two services to present a more complete view of the resource. This change will cause new data from those instances to be mapped to a different MTS than legacy data.
No interruption of data is expected, however when this change is rolled out to each integration it is possible detectors using this data which rely on historical continuity will temporarily behave differently.

Education Corner
Splunk Education has been working hard behind-the-scenes to prepare our Splunk 9.0 platform training release. The first 9.0 courses were released late September and we will continue to roll out updated training content in the coming weeks and months. Splunk Administrators who will be administering Splunk 9.0 should definitely check out the upgraded versions of Splunk System Administration and Splunk Data Administration with expanded content and new Q&A slides.
Stay tuned for more exciting news in the months to come about an expansion to our free training offerings and (maybe) even a new certification in early 2023!
