What happens when hunk trial license ends?

Hello.

I installed Splunk + Hunk trial version on a production server. What will happen after the trial period ? Will I still be able to use the basic Splunk functionality (which uses a free license) ?

I already tried installing basic Splunk Enterprise package over the existing installation, but under "Licensing >> Installed licenses", the "Splunk Enterprise + Hunk Download Trial" trial license is still visible.

When the trial period ends, it converts to the regular Splunk Free license. The download package you already have contains both products. You can read about the restrictions of the free license in the Splunk Enterprise Admin Manual.
