Login issue after upgrade from 5.0.4 to 6

I performed an upgrade from ver. 5.0.4 to 6 on a Window 2008 server and it seemed to be successful, but ever since I have been getting intermittent problems when trying to logon.

I started to receive errors like:

1. Servername:port timeout
2. or after authenticating I receive “ResponseNotReady” and this will continue until I restart the Splunk DB service.

what can I do to resolve without rebuilding.

This error is likely due to Splunk being unable to talk to itself. It's a known issue with Windows, see:
