how do I untar the app for Windows... why wouldn't it be zipped?

I have the Windows app downloaded, but it is in a tar.gz format.

You can also use the "Install into Splunk" button on Splunkbase, instead of "Download App."

Just go to the UI, add new app, from file, choose the file, and Splunk adds it to the server
