Is it possible to upgrade a Splunk forwarder by providing the *.exe file via the deployment server?

Hi,

As per the documentation, Splunk Forwarder must be upgraded directly from the host itself or using a deployment tool.

I would like to know if it's possible to do it via the deployment-server providing the *.exe file. Once downloaded by the Forwarders it can be run directly and upgraded.

Please let me know if you know if a solution like described above is valid or not.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Cyril

Hi SirHill17,

This is not possible, for security reasons.
All it does is roll out apps with Splunk configuration in them.

Use whatever normal installation/systems management tools you have to install and upgrade forwarders and use the Deployment Server for day-to-day forwarder configuration changes. See here http://wiki.splunk.com/Deploying_Splunk_Light_Forwarders for scripts and suggestions.

cheers, MuS
