Getting Data In

How do I find the credentials to connect Splunk to Tableau?

My company is using Splunk to store data for our apps, and we would like to use Tableau to build visualizations. I have installed the driver for Splunk, but I'm not clear on the required credentials, which are server, port, username, and password.

I have access to our company's Splunk Enterprise, but It's automatically logged in once I connect to my company's VPN, which means I do not know my username or password. I also have difficulty finding the server and port.

I tried "splunk.xxx(my company's name).com" as the server, 8089 as the port, and my corporate credentials as username and password; however, it didn't work.

Can someone help me with this problem? Thanks a lot.

Hey,

1. You can try your login password as it seems Splunk taking SSO sign in.

2. If that doesn't work, you can create AD account and get necessary splunk access to that account.

Hello  @xinyizhang,

1. As a prerequisite to connect the tableau with Splunk  , Download the Splunk ODBC connector for splunkbase . (https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1606/ )

2. Login to tableau , On right side click on connect, you will see a form will pop up with Splunk Creds.

3. Add the details, Sever as splunkXXX.xx.xx. , Port will be 443

4. User should have access of Splunk URL.

5. Once connection is successful, you can see all the reports as a table in Tableau.

Hello Rohit,

I have tried 3.1.1 Mac and 3.1.1 Windows. The main problem I have is that I don't know my Splunk username or password because I can be automatically logged into Splunk Enterprise once I connect to my company VPN. I have difficulty with finding my username and password.

Is that because I only have access to Spunk Enterprise, but no access to the actual Splunk database?

Hey @xinyizhang,

Can you let here know which driver you are trying to install and configure? Also, you will need the Splunk username and password when you connect to Tableau with the help of which all the saved searches and reports will be listed in the Tableau UI and you'll be able to visualize the data.

Splunk ODBC helps to connect Splunk instance to Tableau - https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1606/
