Deployment Architecture

Will a 3.x deployment server client "ignore" the 4.x deployment server

I'm in the process of upgrading my deployment server to 4.x. I don't push configuration change that often and I have a lot of lightForwarders out there. My plan was to just upgrade to the new 4.x deployment server and sort of orphan my 3.x deployment client for a while.

My question is - will a 3.x client "ignore" the 4.x deployment server. I.e. - I don't want stuff to get accidentally pushed to the 3.x clients out there as I am configuring/updating the 4.x deployment server.

Thanks,

Dave

The 3.x client is not compatible with the 4.x deployment server. The client will not "ignore" the deployment server and may have problems. There are known issues with this and you should not intermix without reviewing the link below.

The recommended practice is to have a parallel installation of the 3.x deployment server. You can review further details here:

Thanks - I also found this link which details how to setup a stripped down 3.x deployment server alongside my 4.x indexer/deployment server: http://www.splunk.com/base/Documentation/4.1.1/Installation/Configureastandalone3.4.xdeploymentserve...
