What happens to Splunk if the NFS mount attached to the search pool goes down (NAS scheduled maintenance)?

What happens to Splunk if the NFS mount attached to the search pool goes down (NAS scheduled maintenance)? Would Splunk go down completely or some functionalities go unavailable?

I believe this actually happened to my Splunk environment years ago. Splunk completely hangs. No response in the UI and no response on CLI.
