Splunk can't graph non-numerical data.  Replace "active" and "inactive" with 1 and 0 and you'll get a graph.

Thanks richgalloway  for your prompt response. Is there any way to show the string values/non-numerical data over the graph?

I'm not aware of a way to do that.
