Why am I prompted for password (multiple times) after authentication with Kerberos via Apache proxy?

I need some help with Kerberos authentication via an Apache proxy. I have it working for the most part. I open Safari (or Chrome), go to the splunk web page, and Negotiate auth works nicely. I see that splunk recognizes me by the fact that it has my name in the top right. However, I then go to dashboards and select a dashboard I created the other day. I'm then prompted with a password authentication window. So, I type my username/pwd in about 50 times (give or take a bunch) and it finally loads my dashboard.

So, a few questions...

  • Why is it prompting for my password when I am already authenticated?
  • Why is it prompting for a password at all if the kerberos negotiate is working for the site?

Unfortunately, the system won't let me post my virtual host configuration here (not enough karma), I'll try in a comment

Still unable to upload my virtual host config for some reason. Any help would be appreciated.
