Prepping for Dashboard Tabs

Our current Splunk version doesn't have the Dashboard Tabs feature, but we'll be upgrading to one that does have it in 3 months. I need to setup some dashboards "now" with the intent that they feed in smoothly to the coming Tabs feature. Is there any nuance to this? Or am I simply creating 5 separate dashboards, to later reposition as Tabs?

Hi @Shautea

I think you'd be best creating them as individual dashboards for now, once upgraded you can easily join them into a single dashboard by clicking to add a new tab as below, and selecting Import a Dashboard:

Then you can paste in your other dashboard definition to add it as a tab:

Ha! You live, you learn. Wasn't aware that you can import this way. Nice one.

No. Dashboard with tabs contains "tabs" section within the layout part of the spec so you'll need to merge the code - define separate layouts based on your existing tabs and create tabs using those layouts.

It's not that you'll have to rewrite whole dashboards from scratch but it's still a bit more complicated that simple copy-paste.

Thanks Rick. I'm setting up new dashboards so we don't have existing tabs now. I want to confirm the most seamless way to create these new dashboards, given that I plan for them to use the proper Tabs feature once we've got access to it.
