access website remotely

New Member

When logged into the server, I can open http://localhost:8000 fine. I try to open http://server:8000 from another machine, and nothing comes up. How do I enable remote access to the website?

You need to provide more information:

  1. What flavor of OS?
  2. Are there any firewall rules preventing access to the the server itself via port 8000?

Also, is splunkweb listening on the server's ethernet interface (this is the default, so it should be), and is DNS configured right?

  1. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
  2. Firewall disabled
  3. Assuming that its listening on the eth interface (didn't change anything, so its set to default)
  4. DNS reports ip address fine. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8000 doesn't bring up the page either

This is documented behavior in >= 4.1.4

From http://www.splunk.com/base/Documentation/latest/Admin/WhatsSplunkWeb

Note: Starting in Splunk version 4.1.4, you cannot access Splunk Free from a remote browser until you have edited $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/local/server.conf and set allowRemoteLogin to Always. If you are running Splunk Enterprise, remote login is disabled by default (set to requireSetPassword) for the admin user until you have changed the default password.

I've edited the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/system/local/server.conf file, added "allowRemoteLogin = Always", restarted the services, but still can't access it remotely.
