Similar App/AddOn Name like Sideview Utils to be used Over Splunk Cloud?

Path Finder

Hi,

We are in planning stage to migrate Splunk On-Premise Solution to Splunk Cloud. Most of the App Dashboards currently use Sideview utils (advanced xml). But Sideview Utils Add On are not supported on Splunk Cloud. Hence need to know if there is any similar Add On/App that can be used over Splunk Cloud?

This is indeed a duplicate of https://answers.splunk.com/answers/556714/side-view-utils-app-for-splunk-cloud.html

but I'll also give a short answer here to close the loop -

The current version of Sideview Utils (currently at 3.3.17 ) actually is vetted for Splunk Cloud and is deployed in Cloud by several customers.
You can download it from this page - http://sideviewapps.com/apps/sideview-utils/ using the "Download Full Version" link.
It's quite possible that you have to open a specific ticket with Cloud to get it installed.

NOTE - there is an extremely old version on Splunkbase (1.3.6) that is very much not vetted for Splunk Cloud and that will never be. If anyone is using that still on-premise I strongly recommend updating to the latest.

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or any confusion about it and I'll try to help - support [at] sideviewapps.com or submit the contact form at https://sideviewapps.com/contact/

@sideview
Thanks for the detailed response. I checked the same over Splunk Cloud App Sections and found that it shows "to contact Splunk Professional Services as the App is still not certified for Splunk Cloud". I will check on the same with them and accordingly will update over this forum.

@sideview
Splunk Professional team came back stating that Sideview Utils (Free Internal Use License) can be used over Cloud rather than Sideview Utils (LGPL). Please let me know apart from License is there any other difference between these two Add-Ons?
Thanks,

Well, you shouldn't be using the LGPL version (1.3.6) - it's extremely old and no longer maintained. Definitely switch to the latest on the sideview free internal use license (3.3.17).

It's a whole ton of versions you're about to upgrade through, but it should be backwards compatible - granted for many things your views are going to be doing things in the pretty old and maybe deprecated ways.

There is no public alternative to Sideview Utils. It is one of the most unique apps/tools in the Splunk ecosystem. At this point, I am pretty sure the answer is no, but it is best answered by the creator of the app, @sideview. I will see if I can get him to chime in.

Thanks @rjthibod. Currently on On-Premise solution Apps are linked to sideview for dashboards which is based on advanced xml. So is there any way to modify/update those dashboards to use simple xml with javascript so that to make it compatible for Cloud?

There is no automated way to convert from Advanced XML or Sideview to SimpleXML and JS. It all depends on the features you are using and how things are built.

I have informed the Sideview author about your inquiry, so wait a few hours and he will likely respond.
