Is there an NIC required for a 10GB ethernet?

Hello,

I am trying to perform hardware sizing for the new splunk indexers and search heads.

In the reference hardware document Splunk specifies that a 1Gb Ethernet NIC is required.

Will there under any circumstances a 10G NIC be needed?
