Accessing Microsoft WID database using Splunk DB Connect

Has anyone been able to use Splunk DB Connect to access a Microsoft WID database on a Windows 2012 server?

The database can only be accessed by named pipes and it appears that Splunk DB connect cannot connect directly so trying to use a ODBC connection with a sql native client installed. So far it's failing to connect.

Found the following error message.

From the log file C:\Program Files\Splunk\var\log\splunk\dbx when validating the connection parameters.
