Showing relationship between two tiers

I would like to get two tiers that are currently recording transactions to show a link between them in the dashboard. With databases/JMS queues/HTTP requests, this is pretty easy to do because of autodetection. However, when trying to link two Java applications that talk to each other in a nonstandard way, I don't see how we tell AppDynamics about the communication.

My specific example is a Kafka server. We produce messages in one app and send them to Kafka. I'm familiar enough with Scala to figure out what method to monitor for invocations on both the client and server. I can see transactions coming in on both tiers, but I don't know what other data I need to provide to inform AppDynamics about the relationship between them.

Any advice?

We have a feature called custom correlation that may be helpful. We do not currently have public documentation for this but plan to publish some as soon as we can. In the meantime, since it appears you are already a customer of ours, please file a support ticket to get assistance with your request.
