Disk Space

Hi App Dynamics team.

I was expecting to find a dashboiard item for used disk space and free disk space for a particular node. I see that Disk I/O has a metric, and Memory usage - and so on - but nothing for used disk space and free disk space.

Please advise - is there a way to configure AppDynamics to monitor disk space?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to appsphere community forum. We understood that you are referring to pro version Appdynamics .net product, let us know if any disconnect in our understanding, We do see that Disk space  used and available metrics are not available for .net agent or .net machine agent under metric browser under Hardware resources | Disks section(as referred in screenshot attached)

However this java machine agent supports disk space used and space available metrics as referred in screenshot attached in metric browser ui, refer docs to install machine agent: http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO13S/Install+the+Machine+Agent

Application Infrastructure Performance|<tier-name>|Individual Nodes|<node-name>|Hardware Resources|Disks|<drive-name>|Space Used
Application Infrastructure Performance|<tier-name>|Individual Nodes|<node-name>|Hardware Resources|Disks|<drive-name>|Space Available

Ex:
Application Infrastructure Performance|machineserver1|Individual Nodes|machineserverNode1|Hardware Resources|Disks|c-|Space Available

Thanks,

Arun

Ok - So I've installed the Machine Agent w/ JRE bundle on a number of servers and can now see the disk space used per drive. Here's a sample copy of the full path:

Application Infrastructure Performance|Default Web Site|Hardware Resources|Disks|c-|Space Available

How do I now create a Health Rule to monitor disk space regardless of the volume on all servers in that application? I went into the "Alert & Respond" section but can't find a metric to use by browsing. So instead I choose "Servers" and then specified this above metric path asking to flag a critical if space available was less than 999999999999999 (just a test number so that it would flag on pretty much ANY condition) but it didn't seem to do anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Note: We do not own the advanced server monitoring, so just trying to use the included basic server monitoring with the machine agent to alert on low disk space on our servers)

Can you use the option "Specify a relative metric path" in edit condition
popup in health rule edit view for rule type node hardware and see if it
helps?

ex: "Hardware Resources|Disks|*|Space Used" (without quotes)
