Configuring HA Controller

Hi,

I've gone through your documentation regarding setting up Controller in HA mode. I need clarifications on a few things

1) Is it correct to assume that the failover isn't automatic ? There seems to be an element of intervention required to switch to secondary controller

2) Is it possible to include both primary & secondary controller names in agent config file ? Sure we can do host names, but then need an intelligent DNS to invalidate the primary IP address and update to secondary IP address or alternatively manual intervention to change IP

We would prefer a seamless automatic failover to secondary

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for writing to appsphere community forum. Please find the response to your queries:

Q1: Answer:  Yes, by default failover is not automatic, However let us know if the following information helps to reduce the manual tasks :
http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO13S/Automating+HA+Controller+Failover+and+Failback

Q2: Answer: Currently it is not possible to set to controller hosts(primary and secondary hosts) in agent config files(controller-info.xml). Yes, manual intervetion is required to update the IP address to the failover to secondary when primary instance is failed, Let us know whether load balancer is an option as suggested at docs:

You can use a load balancer that will switch Controllers with the agent knowledge. For example, the load balancer has an IP address of 103.xxx.xxx.xxx and it balances the load between 101.xxx.xxx.xxx and 102.xxx.xxx.xxx.

We request you to refer docs for more clarity:

Thanks,

Arun
