Why is DB Connect V2.4.1 marked as only compatible with Linux 3.0+?

DB Connect V2.4.1 installation document reads, Linux 3.0+ is required. Is it strict? What limitations will it imply when DBX 2.4.1 is installed on Linux 2.6.32 (Centos 6.9) running Splunk 6.3.2?
