By default, Splunk will let you know when a new version of Splunk is available. But what about the apps I have installed? I don't see any way to receive alerts when these apps are updated. Does this functionality exist?
However if you go to the app page in Splunkbase, there's a little 'watch this app' link. If you go click those then the email tied to your splunk.com account will get an update every time there's an update.
