Is there any chance of Splunk open sourcing the Splunk App for AWS and Splunk Add-on for Amazon Web Services?

Any chance of Splunk open sourcing the AWS app and add-on? It's good but lacks some features. Specifically I'd like a CloudTrail section for CloudFormation activity.

I'd rather not fork and would like to contribute.

There isn't any concept of open source. These apps are either supported by Splunk Inc or community or vendors such as Tripwire, Qualys etc. All the apps available on apps.splunk.com are customizable. You can add CloudFormation as one of the data source using modular inputs.
In case you have some specific use cases in mind, please share it with community. May be, someone has already done that.
