How to ingest Splunk data into MongoDB?

Hi team,

we have performance log in splunk, but the storage policy is only for 3 month. so i can't see data metric trend from splunk for whole 1 year.

Is there anyway splunk can ingest data into MongoDB? so that I can use powerBI to connect to MongoDB, and do analysis in PowerBI.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have one question regarding Summary Index.

Our company's data retention policy is only 3 month.  the data that retention is greater than 3 month will be cleared in splunk. Then the data in new summary index will be cleared as well. Then I still can't save the data for a longer time.

Hi @cheriemilk,

if you set-up a longer retention for the summary index, the data (in the Summary Index) will be retained longer than the original index.

In other words, if you copy the relevant data (eventually all the data) in a different index with a longer retention, the data in this index will be maintained for the summary index retention time, even if they will be deleted from the original index.

Hi @cheriemilk,

you have two ways to save your data for a longer time without payng twice the Splunk License, save relevant metrics :

• in a Summary Index,
• in a Data Model (on MongoDB).

If you need to have a database table, without reference to Timestamp, a datamodel is prefereable.

If you need also a timestamp for your data, you can use Summary index or DataModel., it's the same.

To save data in a Summary index, you have to schedule a search, with the frequency you need, ending with the "collect" command, for more infos see at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/9.0.1/Knowledge/Setupsummaryindexes.
