Do I install JRE 8 for DB Connect 3.1.3 on the search head or indexer?

Path Finder

I installed JRE 8 SE on the indexer. I am getting error "cannot communicate with task server, please check your settings". I am also trying to put the path to JAVA_HOME in the settings and keep getting the error "JAVA_HOME path not exist". Do I need to install the JRE for DB connect on the search head instead? The documentation does not really specify in detail.

The JRE must be installed on the same system on which DB Connect is installed.
In a distributed Splunk environment, I like to run DB Connect on a heavy forwarder.
