Add-on for Bro-IDS: Line Break fails with double quote in field. How do I edit the configuration to fix this?

Hi,

I have a Bro IDS log file that consists of tab delimited fields. I have noticed that line breaking tends to fail when there is a double quote " in the field. Have tried numerous props.conf configurations, but it still looks like it is not working. Instead of line breaking it, the whole log is ingested as an event starting at the event with a double quote.

#ts              src       dest       message1            message2
1345678.123432  1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 this is a message   this is a message2
1345678.123433  1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 this is a message   this is a message2
1345678.123434  1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 "this is a message" this is a message2
1345678.123435  1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 this is a message   this is a message2
1345678.123436  1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 this is a message   this is a message2
1345678.123437  1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 this is a message   this is a message2

If this example is ingested, everything from the double quote on line 3 will be ingested.

I have mainly been using the Splunk TA for Bro IDS.

The props.conf for bro looks something like:

[bro]
SHOULD_LINEMERGE = false
TRUNCATE = false
MAX_TIMESTAMP_LOOKAHEAD = 20
TIME_FORMAT = %s.%6N
TRANSFORMS-BroAutoType = BroAutoType, TrashComments, BroRouteIndex
INDEXED_EXTRACTIONS = TSV
FIELD_HEADER_REGEX = ^#fields\t(.*)
FIELD_DELIMITER = \t
FIELD_QUOTE = "

Have added:

LINE_BREAKER = ([\r\n]+)

also have tried:

SEDCMD-DQUOTES = s/"//g

with no success.

Any help on this is greatly apprceiated!

Think this was fixed by changing the field quote to always just look for tabs.

FIELD_QUOTE = \t

Try adding:

BREAK_ONLY_BEFORE_DATE = true
