topic Python upgrade in Splunk Search

Hi All,

I am very new to Splunk and I have a below query regarding Python upgrade. Please advise.

We wanted to upgrade Python for our project requirement which would be used by other packaged application (not Splunk). This is installed in /usr/bin/ directory in Linux server and we also have Splunk running on the same server which has its own Python.

Please could you help me to understand if there would be an impact with Splunk server and its apps if we upgrade Python on /usr/bin/ directory. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi,

Splunk uses own python which shipped with Splunk package so there should not be a problem while upgrading python installed on linux server. But make sure that any of the app/add-on in your Splunk environment are not using python which is installed in /usr/bin/ , sometimes people wants to run code on python 3 and splunk is shipping python 2 so few of the developer is running code on locally installed python 3 which they are executing from python 2
