You need to use application.css to apply customized style/formatting:

I have a form with 3 inputs. one dropdown, one time picker, and one text. The text displays the label above the input field, while the dropdown displays the label to the left of the input field. This looks weird..

Is there anyway to tell it to put the input field to the right of the label instead of below it?

I am dealing with the same display issue. In my case, I have two drop-downs, one text and one time-picker. Have you figured out a solution to this?

No I haven't found a solution yet except that the advanced.xml forms don't seem to have this problem. For me it is only the simple xml forms
