It's more than a problem at google. Most of the links in Splunk Answers are dead now. I'm not sure that killing off all link history is a good plan.

Not specific to Splunk usage, but gollllly, this is making searching for help hard. Most links I click in the Splunkbase and google lead to this page, or one very similar.

Am I the only one getting irritated by it?

EDIT: wrong screen cap uploaded, removed reference

Everything works for me now, it must be something personal 🙂

Cleaning your browser cache & cookies usually helps for issues like this.

So you can go to google, search for splunk charting options and click the first link and get the page you think you should?

https://encrypted.google.com/search?hl=en&q=splunk%20charting%20options

I did this on a fresh VM install with Chrome. I get linked to the rather useless "Special Page" instead of the docs.

The Google indexers are taking quite a while to catch up to the reorganized Splunk 5.x documentation set. The best workaround is to use the search on docs.splunk.com. That will give you the results you want: http://docs.splunk.com/Special:SplunkSearch/docs?q=charting+options.

I find that adding
site:splunk.com
or
site:docs.splunk.com
to the search terms seems to help.

And all the Answers in Splunkbase that contain dead links now? Decimating all that useful information seems like a bad idea.

Update, 12/31/12: piebob and I have gone through 1000 answers and updated the links so they work (and will work permanently). And the Splunk web development team has some things in the works that should help the Google search issues longer-term.
