Hello,

I'm just dipping my toe into using Splunk, and the light version initially seemed like a good fit, but then I discovered the apps in Splunkbase - or rather their incompatibility with Splunk Light. I've found several apps that I probably can't live without in production, but I don't want to have to rebuild my test environment. Is there a simple way to upgrade my test index box from Splunk Light free to Splunk enterprise free? I'm assuming the universal forwarders just stay the same. I installed both the indexer and the universal forwarders using the deb packages.

I've dug around in the documentation (for which I would think a whole section would be dedicated explicitly to this task in the Splunk enterprise install/upgrade section) but I have yet to stumble on it.

Any assistance or a doc link would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Firstly, thanks for your speedy response.

So, by that answer, am I to understand that there is no way to go from splunk light free, to splunk enterprise free (other than starting over with a new install)? If so, then it is what it is - it just makes it a bit harder to evaluate for folks on the fence.

Thanks again.

You can migrate configurations over quite easily from an expired stack. There is no difference between configurations in Light and Enterprise.

You can upgrade from Light Free to Enterprise Trial and then to Enterprise paid. See About migrating Splunk Light in the documentation to confirm this. You just need the Enterprise Trial license. The simplest way to get that in your situation, as a free customer, is to download Splunk Enterprise and install it in the same location where you have Splunk Light.

This is indeed true, I check the product upgrade path, downloaded the Slack Enterprise deb and it did the upgrade diff/migrations steps for me. I had hoped it would be as easy. Thanks!
