Seriously, double points for this one? Splunk does not run on DOS. Splunk runs on Windows Server versions 2003 and up, as well as Vista, 7, and 8. Version 5.0 also runs on XP. It's not clear to me if they're running XP what use they might have for Splunk.

My family's company is currently using a DOS operating system and I'm trying to convince them that they need to start becoming more technologically advanced. I was just wondering if there's any way to enable Splunk to on DOS.

What do you mean by "compatible with"?

Receive data from DOS-based machines through the network? Sure, why not.
Run a universal forwarder? I doubt it.
Run an indexer/search head? It'd be cheaper to just buy any commodity hardware with Linux on it.

Uhm, not even sure if there's anything Splunk could get from a dos based OS. Please note we don't support DOS for any of our products.

I was really just curious if there was any way I could get Splunk working for my family's company. It sounds like a big no. Thanks for the confirmation.

Yeah, get off DOS and then come back. Splunk rocks! Splunk will work will almost any modern OS, even on unexpected platforms, like RasberryPi: http://blogs.splunk.com/2013/10/11/introducing-the-splunk-universal-forwarder-for-raspberry-pi/
