    <description>&lt;P&gt;If these really are Excel (binary format) files, and not csv or some other text based format you will need to convert them into some plain text before feeding them into Splunk using this technique.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;i downloaded the following logs to my workstation running xp and i have splunk running on it.  how do i import them in to splunk?&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;i downloaded the following files to c:\temp
app_logs.xls
group_report.xls
https.xls
Logon.xls
sessions.xls
summary_report.xls

Manager * Data Inputs * Files and Directories * Click on New and select upload local file.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;yes they are excel files.  let me try to convert them to plain text.  do the files have to have certian file name for splunk to read them?&lt;/P&gt;</description>
