&lt;P&gt;standalone indexers can &lt;STRONG&gt;not&lt;/STRONG&gt; be managed via the &lt;A href="https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.0/Indexer/Basicclusterarchitecture"&gt;Cluster Master&lt;/A&gt;. However, you could manage them with the &lt;A href="https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.0/Updating/Deploymentserverarchitecture"&gt;Deployment Server&lt;/A&gt;. There is a lot of useful information out there how to get started with the DS.&lt;/P&gt;
