&lt;PRE&gt;&lt;CODE&gt;/opt/splunkforwarder/bin/splunk start --accept-license --answer-yes --no-prompt
&lt;/CODE&gt;&lt;/PRE&gt;

&lt;P&gt;to make sure nothing stands in the way.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;This worked for me - you can also add it to the restart command after an upgrade :&lt;BR /&gt;
    /opt/splunkforwarder/bin/splunk restart --accept-license --answer-yes --no-prompt&lt;/P&gt;</description>
