When this becomes available will we be able to use it for personal use in a home lab? Testing to make recommendations at work for a monitoring tool for our infrastructure, physical and virtual, switches, routers, servers, and applications.

In regards to the Splunk App for VMware, as of July 2016, the Splunk App for VMware has now been divided into three products:

The Splunk App for VMware

The Splunk Add-on for VMware - Contains the distributed collection scheduler. Also contains the Collection Configuration page now that allows you to connect DCNs and virtual centers

Splunk OVA for VMware - A package of technologies that deploys a Splunk forwarder that serves as a Data Collection Node for sending data to the Splunk App and Add-on for VMware, as well as the Virtualization Module for Splunk IT Service Intelligence.

Splunk Add-on for VMware and Splunk OVA for VMware are meant to work with both the Splunk App for VMware, as well as the Splunk ITSI Virtualization module.
