topic Personal developer to sell Splunk apps? in Splunk Dev

Does anyone try to develop a Splunk app and sell it?
Is it feasible?
I am developing an app and it really takes much time. I am considering to sell to get some money
Thanks

1-Most applications on SplunkBase are community supported (aka 'free')
2-Some are provided, maintained and supported by Splunk ('free', but support only for Splunk customers with an active maintenance contract, but still supported by the community at not cost)
3-Some 'premium' Splunk apps require a separate/additional Splunk license (not free) but the community will still help at no cost.
4-A small number of tools are available with separate agreements from the vendor, (sometimes with a free 'lite' version)
5- Some apps depend on a separate paid for service to be of any use. (In these cases, the vendor sells an existing product, but often offers the Splunk addon/app for 'free' - see 1.)

As far as I understand it, nothing prevents you from monetising your Splunk App, but you will need to manage the process yourself (Splunkbase does not provide a mechanisms for adding payment/licensing controls)

Re: Personal developer to sell Splunk apps?

Here are the details on Monetizing your Splunk Apps: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunkbase/splunkbase/Splunkbase/Monetizeyourcontent

You could do something similar to Afterglow: https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/277/ or Powerconnect: http://www.powerconnectforsplunk.com/. Splunkbase will link to your website where you will have your own Product and Contact details.

Get your App certified to ensure that people trust for it to be used across their Enterprise. Refer to Splunk App Inspector tool: http://dev.splunk.com/view/appinspect/SP-CAAAE9U

If this is for Splunk's integration with any industry standard Tool/Technology, then get that tool/technology Certification as well (if any).

You should also ensure that Add On built to be used along with your App is CIM compliant (Common Information Model) for your App/Add On to be compatible with other Splunk Apps as well: https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1621/

Follow naming convention for your App as well. For example only Apps built by Splunk are supposed to start with the name
Splunk App for...
. Refer to details: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunkbase/splunkbase/Splunkbase/Namingguidelines

You would need to come up with your own licensing terms and also contact Splunk Sales team around the same.
