Rename sites in multisite cluster?

I currently have a multisite index cluster With two sites: site1 and site2. I wish to rename those sites to e.g. 0A and 0B. When having edited the servers.conf files (both under the [general]-stanza and under the [clustering]-stanza: available_sites) and replaced the site names with new ones, Splunk will not start due to "Error = Invalid site id: 0A". When changing the site names back to site1 and 2, everything works fine.

Is there any way to name the cluster sites something other than site1 and site2?

Not in the current version. The supported values are site1 to site63

1 1/2 years and some splunk versions later, did splunk change the supported values?
We like to use our own naming.

Thanks for any feedback.
