I suspect that it won't disconnect existing ones. Check the <A href="http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/DBX/1.1.7/DeployDBX/javaspec">java.conf</A> file for connection pooling settings; consider setting pool.maxIdle=0 to let the connection pool cleanup all idle sessions.
