SPLUNK UF on WIN7 32 bit System

Hi, I'm attempting to install the latest SPLUNK UF on a WIN7 32bit system, which cant be upgraded. Every time I try the install the system crashes and the install doesn't complete. I've tried v9.0, and I get the same issue. I managed to find a v6 UF and this installed no issues. But I want the newest I can get. Is there a way to install the latest ones safely? Has anyone seen this before? This is a stand alone network btw.

may i know if you use Splunk Enterprise OnPrim or Splunk Cloud and the version number pls.

The last version with support for Windows 7 was 6.4.11.
However, the forwarder is no longer supported, the forwarder may contain vulnerabilities, and the forwarder may not communicate with supported versions of Splunk Enterprise OnPrim or Splunk Cloud.

Hi,

I'm on SPLUNK Enterprise on premises, V10.

The forwarder is sending logs correctly. I'm just concerned about the age of it and was wondering if there is a safe way to upgrade without crashing the PC.

as per my little knowledge, UF installation wont crash the PC

now coming the UF installation task
this is just a trial and error idea, if i am in your position i would do this one:

there are only 2 methods: old to new or new to old

as suggested on previous reply, (the 6.4.x will install fine), so lets start with 7x, try installing it and see if it installs fine. if installed fine, then upgrade next version, then next..

OR

just start with the latest UF agent, try installing it. it will mostly fail i think. then go down one version lower, try repeat the same and you will find a version which installs fine.

There are several things at play here.

1. As you are undoubtedly aware, Windows 7 has been out of support for quite some time already. Worrying about UF version in this situation feels a bit like putting the cart in front of the horse.

2. While official supported versions matrix is much more strict the actual interoperability range between UFs and indexers is quite big. The s2s protocol changes relatively rarely and connection endpoints can negotiate a version acceptable for both ends. You might eventually encounter some issues especially around encryption (even more likely if you have some strict requirements which older UF might not be able to meet).

3. Since both your Windows version as well as any possibly applicable UF version are no longer maintained you won't be able to get any support regarding any problems with them (as you can see - including installation issues). So the best you can hope for is just try several versions to try to find the one that works if you absolutely can't get out of Win7. It's unlikely that anyone here will have current experience with forwarders on Win7 let alone your particular installation problems.
