Will there be future support for FreeBSD as a platform?

Please can someone provide information whether FreeBSD will be supported going forward as a Splunk platform?

In the latest release notes FreeBSD 7.x and 8.x are listed under the removed section - this is understandable as these were officially EOL'd releases a while now.

FreeBSD 9.x is listed under the deprecated list - this is still a current release.
FreeBSD 10.x is the current mainstream release but not listed (although the installation works just fine on this release).

So in a nutshell, if possible would be great to clear this uncertainty and confirm whether FreeBSD will be supported in the next release of Splunk going forward.

At this time, there are no plans to support FreeBSD in the next major release of Splunk except as an Universal Forwarder.

It hasn't been determined at this time support plans for FreeBSD past that release.

There are no plans to remove FreeBSD as a supported platform for the Universal Forwarder and we'll clean up a few things for the UF on FreeBSD in the next release. Look for more details soon.

Is this the result of low Splunk customer interest in FreeBSD as a platform or technology related decision?

We see interest in FreeBSD in the Splunk community which is why we want to keep the Universal Forwarder on FreeBSD as a supported platform. Further support for other core Splunk components on FreeBSD is definitely related to customer demand relative to other platforms and testing bandwidth.

Our splunk environment is all running on FreeBSD, and has for years, so this was kind of a shock when I went to look into updating.

This puts a large impact on our infrastructure and IT staff, knowing that we have to now migrate our Splunk environment off onto a new platform.
