Hello,

I'm having the same issue. We're using Chef to deploy the SSL certs password and Chef keeps changing it to the clear-text.
If we knew the algorithm behind the hashing we could generate the salted password ourselves.
We don't have a Support Contract yet, so cannot submit ticket.

Thanks

I know that splunk.secret is used as the salt to encrypt SSL passwords. But what is the algorithm behind it?

I would like to encrypt passwords manually, without going through the splunkd restart procedure.

please open a support ticket to find out what would be the best option for you to proceed.
